WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome!
It is an indubitable fact that education plays a pertinent role in the development of a people, a fact capable of redeeming a people who have long wandered in the dark in search of the lights of enlightenment. It has dawned on us that the Liberian educational system needs systemic reform to redeem the crippling sector and our nation at large from the hoax of a system we have long turned a blind eye to.
Today, against this sour history, the St. Maria Goretti Institute is joining various campaigners for the educational reformation of our country. We believe in the assertion of Nelson Mandela that “no country can really develop unless its citizens are educated.” This dictum provided an impetus for the establishment of the St. Maria Goretti Institute, a modern educational institution with modern facilities and a serene environment for learning. At SMGI, we are on a mission to maximize the potential of each child by fostering a love for learning in a challenging and balanced environment; to instill in our students, moral and religious virtues, so as to enable them to become responsible people and honest citizens.
Let us all join the campaign towards the educational reformation of Liberia. Let us join the fight to save the future!

OUR VISION
OUR VISION To provide wholesome, quality education progressively to learners, by empowering them to discover their potentials and develop the confidence necessary to actualize an educational system called preventive system (system of education that discourages students being harshly treated)
Objectives
SCHOOL's PHILOSOPHY
We encourage and challenge our students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for learners. We also promote the attitudes and learners’ profile of the Early Childhood Development Program and Day-Care; an ideal of international understanding. We encourage our young children to become responsible, internationally minded citizens of the world. Our goal is that all members of our school community will be critical and compassionate thinkers and lifelong learners who respect the variety of cultures and attitudes that make up the diversity of the world.
BRIEF HISTORY
St. Maria Goretti Institute has its genesis in the minds, hearts, and wills of Alexander and Monica S. Berrian a husband and wife team, passionate about quality education particularly for Liberia’s children and supported wholeheartedly by Sr. Mary Laurene Browne, OSF, one of Liberia’s foremost educators. With 2.5 lots purchased from Mr. T. Fredrick Gibson in 2011 and with Mrs. Berrian receiving a hefty family endowment, the foundation of St. Maria Goretti was laid and the structure began to emerge not to a perfect finish when the first classes of kindergarten to 3rd graders entered on September 5, 2016. Of all the Saints listed in the communion of Saints, why is St. Maria Goretti chosen as patroness for the institute? It is because, at the tender age of 12, this Italian girl of the Catholic faith paid with her life to defend her purity.
She exemplified rare courage in living a productive life and in flooding all with inspiration in earning the crown of martyrdom. Today, we venerate her for the courage she had to accept God’s grace and to overcome a difficult moment in her life. St. Maria Goretti also serves as a role model for all children who should listen to and follow the excellent teachings of their parents, guardians, and teachers as they strive to prepare them to live respectfully, humbly, responsibly, comparatively, and lovingly no matter where they find themselves. It is hoped that all who enter St. Maria Goretti Institute (SMGI) will be guided, nurtured, and inspired by dedicated professionals in ways that elevate education thereby empowering the learners not only to discover who they are but very importantly what they can become academically, culturally, socially to their own success but also to the benefit of the country and the world at large.
